Professor Doggett received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Claremont McKenna College in 1969, his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1972, and his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1981. After graduation, he went to work for McKinsey & Company as a management consultant and worked in McKinsey’s Washington D.C. and Copenhagen Denmark offices. John then created his own international management consulting firm where he focused on helping developing countries transform their economies to become more market oriented. John consulted with clients in twenty-five countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.

Today, Mr. Doggett is an award-winning Professor of Instruction at the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin, where he has been teaching since 1989. John teaches MBA courses about entrepreneurship, global competition, and sustainability and has won 14 student-selected “Outstanding Teaching” Awards, more than any current member of the McCombs faculty. John has taught courses on entrepreneurship and venture capital in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. He has experience collaborating with companies and trade associations in a wide range of industries, including economic development, electric utilities, oil, gas, and coal, manufacturing, retail, transportation, software and non-profit.
